About Mari-Mari Backpackers Lodge
Mari Mari Backpackers Lodge is located at Pulau Mantanani Besar (Big Mantanani Island). There are two types of accommodation available here. The charming "Sulap" (Hut or Cabin in the native Kadazandusun language) or the Sayang Sayang dormitory hostel. "Sulap"-Style Huts - Twin/Triple Share All "Sulap" are made of very simple wooden village type house built on stilts and have teak wood floors. Below each "Sulap" is a deck area furnished with hammock between the stilts. There is a staircase to climb around 2 meters high to go to the room. Guests are provided with mattress on the floor, blanket and a pillow each. Each "Sulap" is equipped with lighting and socket points, and wall fan. For all Twin-Share Rooms, it comes with attached bathroom and hot water shower is available during the island's regular electricity supply time, i.e. 6.00PM to 6.00AM.
Sayang Sayang Dormitory Hostel For Dormitory-Style Rooms (max. 8 persons in a room), guests are housed in Mari Mari Mantanani’s dormitory wing known as Sayang Sayang Hostel. Sayang Sayang Hostel is on the same beach with Mari Mari Backpackers Lodge, separated only by a narrow strip of land. The hostel provides guests with clean and no frill accommodation with basic facilities. For Dormitory-Style Rooms, there are no attached bathrooms.This hostel offers four 8 beds mix dormitory rooms with common bathrooms (male and female segregated). Each room is equipped with lighting and socket points, and a ceiling fan. Hot water shower is available during the island’s regular electricity supply time, i.e. 6.00pm to 6.00am. Guests are provided with bed, blanket and a pillow each.
You are reminded to bring along personal toiletries and towel though some basic items may be purchased at the Manta Shop. The surroundings of the island are covered with a stretch of beach. Guests may enjoy walking along the beach but note that Island electricity supply is only available from 6.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. daily. Electricity supply voltage is 240v, 50-cycle system. Shopping options is almost non-existent. Mobile phone reception is not available on the island. The Lodge is nevertheless connected to the outside world by telephone and internet through satellite link (Calls are chargeable). Wi-Fi internet connection is available for rental when electricity supply is on.
How to Get Here
Journey takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes drive from KK city. Transfer to Mantanani Island by speedboat. Boat ride takes approximately 1 hour.

Internet Wi-Fi Connection Wi-Fi connection is available for rental at the following rates: 2D/1N = RM15.00 3D/2N = RM20.00 Additional RM5.00 for each additional night stay Wi-fi connection is only available when the electicity supply is on.

- Raincoat to protect against water splashes during boat ride
- Plastic Bags to protect your electronic devices or important document from getting wet
- You may wish to bring along some food/snacks with you
Things To Note:
- Participant must be physically fit as this is an adventure tour.
- You might get WET during the boat journey, so please be sure to pack and stow your belongings properly during the journey. Dry bags or plastic bags for waterproofing are recommended.
- Kindly note that you are responsible for the safe keeping of your belongings at all time. We do not encourage guests bringing along electronic devices, valuables and important documents.
- Due to the nature and adventurous nature of the tour, children under 5 years old are not encouraged to participate in the tours.
- Age limit for diving with compressed air is 12 years old and above.
- Please check with us if you have any special dietary request, e.g. vegetarian. We however do not guarantee that we will be able to meet all requests.
- Meals (not provided) are available at the Lodge’s Cafeteria. Opening hours of the café is from 6.30am to 10.00pm. For your convenience, we strongly recommend that you pre-order your meals at the time of reservation.
- Electricity supply on the island is limited to 12 hours a day starting at 6.00pm to 6.00am. Voltage use is 220v-240v.
Terms & Conditions
- All reservation MUST provide the following information for security reasons: Name as per passport, Passport Number, Nationality, Gender.
- Weather conditions: We cannot predict the weather conditions these days for scuba diving even for the best season.
- For safety reasons, tour and activities are dependent on SEA & WEATHER CONDITIONS. We reserve the rights to CANCEL or POSTPONE the tour or any activities if we deem there is an absence of a safe operating environment. We monitor closely weather changes through the relevant sources.
- We will not be liable for any damage to your belongings caused by exposure to elements of nature such as weather and sea conditions.
- Liability Release Form MUST be understood and signed by the participant before the tour commences.
- After commencement of service, no refund, in part or full, will be given for services included in the package which have not been utilized.
